| | | stimulus money | | I know that everyone is checking the mail these days for their checks but, where did the money come from? And why did the congress choose to do this, won't we just be digging another hole? | |
| | Have you ever tried sewing your own clothes? | | I have thought about this lately as an interesting hobby. My Mom used to sew outfits for us as kids and created some really cute dresses when my kids were small. Just curious if others on Mylot do this and if they have any tips for newbies or recommend a good affordable sewing machine? Cheers! | |
| | Suggestions for a safe home. | | Having a safe home should be one of our top priorities, a place where we are protected from what is potentially harmful. If we are not careful we can inadvertently surround ourselves with substances that can be toxic to our bodies. Below are some suggestions for creating a healthier home: 1. By purchasing products that contain wholesome, organic, and inert components we will avoid most common household toxins. Always read labels. 2.Most things in the home can be cleaned and disinfected using varying combinations of baking soda, vinegar, salt, tea tree oil, herbs, and gentle castile soap. Use organic cotton slipcovers that can be washed regularly.3. Plants clean and add oxygen to the air we breathe.Placing two plants in each room will rid the air of toxins and pollutants while balancing indoor humidity levels. Air purifiers are an easy way to have clean air and are especially useful in a bedroom. We should also clean air ducts and furnace and change filters regularly. 4. Nontoxic paints and varnishes adds beauty to the house or apartment while lowering our exposure to unsafe chemicals. 5. When away from home for an extented period it's a good idea to pay close... | |
| | are organic toys the best for your kid? | | Organic toys have been seen to be a better replacement for chemically or metallic coated toys. Organic toys are often made from wooden materials or soft rubber hence there is no need for any metal or chemical painting . This also means that common toy poisoning effects are prevented. Common organic toys come in from of building blocks, rattles, checkers, and organic cotton stuffed animals. They are environmental friendly and can be disposed off easily when they are faulty.
Organic toys can serve as a better replacement for your child especially those who love to play and even put toys in their mouths since no chemical harm can come from such practices. Organic toys remain the safest in the world. They are inexpensive and are much more durable than plastic toys.
Organic infant toys are free from pesticides, fertilizers, paints, additives, growth hormones, and harmful radiation materials. Medical experts have suggested that infants should be given organic food at their growing stages and such foods should not be formulated or offered them inside chemical plastic toys and materials to prevent contamination and to help them grow properly

| | a little ashamed of Seattle right now | | As Ive grown more environmentally aware Ive heard about things i have found out more about efforts going on all over the country to help clean up and make areas cleaner and so forth. Seattle specifically. They had a bag tax that was supposed to go into effect next month i believe that was to help discourage the use of plastic bags (you were only taxed if you didn't bring your own bag and had to use plastic). This was based off of Ireland's plastax which decreased their plastic bag consumption by 90%. Well Seattle had this kind of tax come up against voters and the people that lobbied against it, the oil companies which the material that is used to make plastic bags come from, won by influencing the greater percentage of the Seattle residence with lies indicating that such a tax would do nothing to help the environment. Which is not true because it would make people at the very least think twice about how many plastic bags were out there, and as the goal of such a tax is, get people to stop using plastic bags and start using reusable bags made of things like canvas, hemp and organic cotton. Im very disappointed in Seattle right now for not approving this tax...apparently they are... | |
| | Ever purchased organic clothing??? | | I found this shirt at the store today and i just fell in love with it. It was just one of those shirts thats just so fits me. Well i got it then realized its 100% organic cotton. Hmm Interesting. Its my first organic shirt. Now the question is...is there different ways of cleaning it than non organic clothing?? I bought the shirt a little large for me, and now i am glad i did, worried its going to shrink or something. And whats worse is there is no care instructions on the shirt. So have you ever bought organic clothing?? Is there a difference on how you wash them?? | |
| | What's your favourite slogan on a T-shirt? | | When I'm out and about am always interested to read the slogans people have on their T-shirts. It often says a lot about a person - how shallow or deep they are, light-hearted or serious and so on. I would love to buy more organic cotton T-shirts, but sometimes the messages on them are so worthy and ultra-ethical, I would be too embarrassed to wear them!Bought a couple of T-shirts when I went to a vegan festival, last Sunday. One was a green coloured organic T-shirt with a picture of a tree on it and underneath it said "hugger". This could have a double meaning, as I'm going to personal development weekends where we hug each other, to be on friendlier terms with each other. The other T-shirt is in the complementary colour of red, saying "Pretty Vegan, never mind the bollocks", a play on a song by the Sex Pistols, notorious punk rock band, who unfortunately, kinda sold out on their ideals (if they ever had any!).Well, what are your stories, on T-shirts? Do you wear one, with the slogan "I'm with stupid!", when out and about with your partner? Do, pray tell! | |
| | Is It True? Could Our Shower Curtains Really Be A Toxic Threat? | | This story caught my eye the other day when I was reading our local paper. Is there anything that is safe for us in our everyday life? Must we always be on our toes? Is there anything that is safe to buy anymore that does not cause us harm?ALBANY -- If you use a vinyl shower curtain, you may want to wear a gas mask in the shower, according to an environmental group that found the material releases toxic chemicals that are linked to respiratory illnesses and other ailments.
What consumers are buying is not just a "water barrier," said Barbara Warren, executive director of the Citizens' Environmental Coalition, a statewide environmental group. "Instead, what you're bringing home is a toxic cloud."
The Virginia-based Center for Health, Environment & Justice released test results Thursday that show curtains made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) emit more than 100 volatile organic compounds. Some of these chemicals -- which can cause headaches and other problems -- could be detected by special equipment up to 28 days after unfolding the curtains. The curtains were purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond, Kmart, Sears, Target and Wal-Mart.The total level of chemicals was 16... | |
